Sense of Detachment

Have you reached a state of being when you don’t want to engage with people? Nor explain yourself, period! Nor want to be a part of a madding crowd that speaks of nothing and everything. And you feel an inner silence enveloping you combined with a strange sense of detachment of what is happening outside of you. That abuse from those who have some grouses is just amusing!

Well, I wish you all that this year will bring you to this state of calm and peace. Our journey is inward. Or should be if it isn’t as yet.

Self-Respect

It is beneficial to understand human nature. People stop affecting you adversely, especially when they try hard to malign you regularly, at any excuse, within a group you may be a part of.

I sincerely think such people need a lot of compassion and silence from your end, instead if retaliation. They are not worth your attention.

Sometimes, a desire to put someone down comes from a desperate attempt to look superior. Sadly, this is not what is the actual outcome.

If you keep maligning a person or persons, you get the reputation of being untrustworthy.

We see that either you have the grace to walk away from such episodes or otherwise, you compromise your reputation because you want to remain within the toxicity for your own reasons.

Self-Respect is not easy to achieve or maintain. It does isolate you from people to an extent. Of course, ultimately, it will bring better people in your life. But first, you have to be willing to let go of your earlier comfort levels, especially if they bring stress and controls upon you. And you don’t want or are unable to build your boundaries.

Each day is a lesson and each experience a teacher.

Intention

You are not what people say you are. And there is no need to become defensive or give explanations to appease. There IS nothing and no one to appease without losing yourself in the bargain. Not at all worth it.

Sometimes, silence works the best. Even words spoken with good intention can fall by the wayside if they are not accepted in the same spirit that they were meant.

What is most satisfactory is building a relationship with yourself. And silence, both inner and outer, is the ultimate harbinger of inner peace and understanding of the self.

Allow your mind to rest and explore your inner silence. It will gradually begin to speak to you with clarity and become a wise friend.

Principles of Criticism

This morning, I came across a very important fact in Swamiji’s talk. Makes you think! He talks about principles of criticism.

Jokingly, he says, people who say brutal truths to others about them are often very sensitive when the same is pointed out to them. These are people who are often more interested in brutality than truth. Very often, we find that those who love to criticize cannot face it themselves. In fact, they can’t bear it.

In the scriptures, this is not recommended. They ask you to resist from saying truths of this kind. Instead, they advocate love.

If you have compassion, you need to be gentle and nurturing even in pointing out something to another. Just as you would expect from others.

Actually, critics are those who keep you clean without soap and water. Saints almost never criticize, as you will learn from every Buddha story. But how did he handle people? With warmth and love. Human beings should help each other rise above karmic frailties.

Everyone does not have a charmed life to be able to always be mindful about accepting suffering and hurt gracefully. Life has a heavy karmic agenda for many. For some, the unexpectedness of adversities can be shocking even. But still, they manage whichever way they can. They probably think they have done wonders despite the constant onslaught of karma. However, others around them cannot see the blood tears that have been shed.

That’s why wisdom says, don’t tell anyone what you have endured and continue to endure. More criticism will be the only outcome. There can be a lot of desire to hurt behind the criticism. But, we must be warned that this is not the territory of God.

So, Silence is the best. It is your karma. You face it.

So, tell the truth to someone out of love and gently, in a way that it is accepted and will bring about a welcome change. Let it not result in a vicarious pleasure of having told someone off. And understand that when there is non-acceptance and anger of the person you heap criticism on, that you really need cleaning up as well. Let us worry about our own growth first.

Innocent

Silence has a lot of power. When the mind is silenced, the spiritual dimension opens up. A joyful experience indeed!

On the other hand, like everything else in this world, it depends on its usage. Silence is not always innocent! It can be used as a tool to indicate disapproval. It can also be used to control people in vulnerable positions and situations.

Silence can be anti - justice if we keep quiet at times when we watch people going through abuse and injustice.

And silence can result in peace, more when a certain amount of detachment sets in. And that sets in when you stop expecting largesse from humans and start connecting with your divine energy and source.

Dependability

Humans survive on their core beliefs.  If those are negative about someone, they generate hate. If they are positive, they generate  caring, affection . BUT , only until such time as their core belief changes.

Therefore dependability is a quality that goes along with commitment , not with core beliefs only because they are changeable in nature. They are also debilitating to the self if they are not the right ones.

We really need to be very careful with such beliefs . They tend to hurt, result in bad karma and mar relationships.

Actually, we don’t accept people and relationships as they are. The element of tolerance and forgiveness is missing. And I think this is because every soul on this earth is damaged. So they talk of others being damaged but cannot face the fact that they themselves are damaged and don’t have enough love to give. Everything then becomes a show for the outside world. And relationships are chosen according to what they can accept, not who they can love despite their imperfections.

Love is the only core intrinsic to humans but it’s purity and it’s selflessness is always a question .

It is enough to go ahead and heal yourself in every way and remain within your space, your energy, without expectations . Silence is golden as they say. Silence of the mind and heart AND the brain when it is not required for daily activity.

State of Mind

In the Indian discipline, fasting has many benefits. Many religions also advocate it as a cleanser of toxins. The benefits, however, are many if fasting extends in thought, word and deed.
Therefore, "mouna” or silence is very important. Silencing your thoughts, your speech and abstaining from toxic foods purifies the system. It purifies thoughts, exercises some measure of control over speech automatically and puts you in a placid and calm state of mind.
Children in schools should be initiated most definitely. A daily exercise of silence or chanting for a few minutes to start the day with can make a sizeable difference to those who are hyperactive. The younger generations of parents are incorporating this technique on a daily basis with positive results.
It really would be ideal to introduce parts of the earlier "Gurukul" system of holistic education to make the future generations ethically, morally, mentally, emotionally and physically strong and balanced.
