Environment

Every generation is a product of its environment. To compare what we had and we could not give the next generation is odious. Because life had changed so drastically by then that we could not have given that upbringing even if we wanted to. The wise and discerning parents of those times got their children married into similar families for smooth transition of their children. But those who didn’t were inadvertently responsible for many unhappy marriages due to a sea of differences in upbringing and value systems or a lack of similar ones. It became a chalk and cheese situation.
The children of such mismatches often contributed further to a functionality in these families resulting in distances.
Ultimately, it is “c’est la vie”. You accept and adjust and move on. Pining for what was or what could have been is like trying to hold sand in your fists. It will slip away before you know it.

Theory of karma

Sometimes, when you think deeply about the theory of karma, it seems to clash with the theory that the universe is turning in its own way and by its own rules. And everything is like pieces in a kaleidoscope. Each time you move it, the pieces form a brilliant new design, very attractive and beautiful to look at. Some look at the shapes, some at the colors but the whole design is very pleasing.
Life is just like that but for many, it becomes dull, colorless, boring, depressing etc. There is no doubt that if life moves like that, then we are the ones who don't see the colors. Our vision is defective. We may call it a karmic defect, for past memories cloud the capacity for clear vision.
But who sees or does not see? NOT the body. Not the soul. It is our thoughts, emotions and ego. We are "chidananda roop, shivoham Shivoham."
So, if there is no thought, there is no emotion and no desire, therefore no ego. That's when the kaleidoscope makes absolute sense.

Quality of existence

Large heartedness is always the way to go. Humans are, by virtue of being a part of the Divine energy and hence, spiritual beings, are naturally expansive. This intrinsic quality must be retained to lead a higher quality of existence.
Ultimately, the micro IS the macro. But small mindedness is not productive. It is not natural. Servicing our needs which have already been built into the cosmic plan is therefore, is counterproductive. What we service is our wants, not our needs. And that's where the difference is not recognized.
You will notice that the moments of the greatest happiness are always when you have extended yourself beyond yourself to others; Maybe, charity or a kind listening ear, "annadaan”, imparting education, and the like, even loving selflessly.
The day we recognize this, we will be well on our way to a truly happy state of being.
