Stimulation

As we advance in age, you know what becomes a moot question? That how many years have we tried to come up to other people’s expectations, to get that much craved for pat on the back to feel good and feel a sense of comfortable self-esteem?

And what does it take to come into our own as yet undiscovered space which belongs only to us? Rejected by none other than ourselves in exchange for temporary happiness handed out by others. The crumbs of happiness that actually had such a short life and yet, we never quite understood this and kept craving for many such short lives.

But the day we realize the happiness on reaching and discovering our own space, it appears as the most beautiful garden, the most complete and the most joyful! Coming into our own! Feeling so wholesome that there is no need for any external validation or stimulation to fill any empty spaces within. Because, you see, there ARE none!

Judgement

People were discussing gossip the other day. I started analyzing the detrimental value of this malicious pastime. I could not see it as “information”. More like inquisitiveness and maligning people out of jealousy or spite or both.

We are self-proclaimed judges in society, maybe because judging is easier than thinking things through. And it is certainly not objective by any standards when our emotions manifest in running down someone.

There comes another human aberration to mind. And we have all been subjected to this, causing deliberately planned or thoughtless misunderstandings. Remember Chinese whisper, the game we played in school? At least that was innocent and invited a few laughs.

People have this habit of listening to conversations and then quoting lines from

these conversations WITHOUT giving the context within which they were spoken in the first place! In isolation, those lines could be interpreted very negatively. This causes terrible misunderstandings because people today are quick to personalize every statement. Especially if they don’t particularly like the person who speaks. There is no room for benefit of doubt. Such is the intensity of insecurity these days. Maybe even of very low self-esteem.

Instead of igniting fires of separation, would it not be better to bring people together, just with positive suggestions to all? We do tend to endorse negative viewpoints out of conviction sometimes. The wise however, do not do that. They allow things to be and for change to happen through experiences. A constant criticism and judgement does not give space to the other person to reflect. Also, a direct attack on anyone’s self-esteem is nothing short of cruelty.

As it is said, kindness is to support and strengthen people. Our role in life is meant to be salutary.

The truth is, we are all connected. And when we ignite sparks, some of those sparks burn us too.

And let us incorporate ourselves within our levels of consciousness to get the larger picture.

Motivation

If you depend on other people to motivate you, you are on shifting sands. If a word of appreciation is a trigger to do your best, you can be swinging between movement and inertia.

May a time, you feel,” wow! I never knew I could do this!” But someone comes and brings down your castle of self-esteem in a flash by poking many holes in your edifice of creative joy. Sometimes, it may be just an honest opinion aired irresponsibly! But if it affects you, it will certainly hamper your productivity at least for a while. Which is why the courage of your own convictions should override everything else. Because everyone looks at you with a different lens. But yours IS the best lens. It has the power of thought, intention, creativity AND motivation before the final action. And it is YOU all the way, which is most important.

Self-esteem

One of the most significant issues of self-esteem is the inability to be relevant to oneself and as a reaction, to others.

I have noticed many times that being relevant as being productive is imperative to the rest falling into place. It makes for a certain brand of inner happiness that makes petty issues irrelevant, which would be otherwise magnified, leading to much inner struggle and conflict.

Relevance also gives a value to society through our contribution. A win situation.
