If we recorded our daily output of words and played them back to ourselves, how many words would be those of criticism and gossip of others?
The state of our minds can be
really understood by this exercise.
I am sure most of us realize what
we are saying and the intention behind what we are saying. It is just the
compulsion to say it that is often suspect, even disturbing.
Speech is a gift we need to use
very carefully. Even when we sympathize with people without this gift, we don’t
mend our ways.
If we cannot say a good word, it
is better not to say anything. For the sake our own minds which will get
polluted and we then have the extra work to clean them up.
Why not then just be quiet and
peaceful and watch the world go by? Instead of taking on unnecessary piles of
rubbish that was never yours to carry in the first place.
