Grace

Grace! The most obvious to me: God's grace!
It is always there, whether we feel it or not. And not being able to feel it is our flaw, our lack of awareness and connectivity with the Divine.

Then the grace of a human being. Evidently, the first thought is physical grace. But beyond that, grace as in graceful behavior, the ability to temper it with a sense of calm, good will and control, without hurting.

Grace as opposed to brash, even crass. Grace as in inspiring respect. Grace as in simple, honest and conciliatory. As in considerate and helpful in return for unkind behavior.

Graceful talk as opposed to merely a graceful walk or gait.
To have grace is a sterling quality divine in content.

Criticize

I was reading a quote which said, however good you are, there will always someone criticizing you. It took me a long time to finally understand that people don't criticize you because they don't like you. They criticize you either because they like you, though reluctantly, and wish they could be like you...or because they resonate with the same negativity that they criticize you for.

This kind of understanding frees you from feeling a lack of self worth and there is no personal "beating up" due to what others says or think. Isn't that wonderful?

Painful exercise

It is a fact of life that people come for a while in your life and move out of your orbit also. Holding on is a painful exercise.

To add a little humor to this, I always remember the typical scene from the old Hindi films where the woman holds onto the leg of her husband and says “mat jao. Mujhe chhod kar mat jao...” it can also be applicable to any other relationship.

What will I do without you, is a very human feeling. But then, it is tempered with the ability to do without, too? We say time takes care of many things…I think, it means that slowly, we ourselves learn to let go. If we don’t, time does not take care of it.

Family matters! I hear this line constantly “we don’t choose our family. Thank God for our friends”. It puzzles me much. I feel as if we are talking about two species from different planets!

Fear of People

The deepest complexities develop within us when we don't express our personalities for fear of people. Have we ever thought about.....does the sun shine less brightly for fear that it will scorch? Does the breeze stop blowing strongly for fear that it may cause havoc? Does the fire stop spreading and burning for fear that it might cause damage? These constitute the intrinsic nature of these elements. Only humans will harm themselves by bottling and stifling to please others.

Points to remember

Pain of any kind is necessary for a release of the old and advent of the new. For example, if I fall and hurt myself, and there is much pain, I know that my awareness quotient was very low. So, I make it a point to remember that I must walk with a greater awareness. So, the fall acts as a catalyst of change.

It is a good idea to examine the events where we acted out of less awareness and which landed us into trouble and pain. We say "I will never do this again" but the "never" happens again and yet again.

Self Help

Quote of the day

“I have realized...”

I have realized...

That some people have very few needs and remain happy.
That others have so much but want more.

That life is actually very simple if we are transparent and honest.

That no one can complicate our life but ourselves.

That lies are not a onetime aberration...it has to be told again and again to hide the earlier ones.

That internally, we are never happy with compromises but the price for standing
alone seems too high.

That we know we cannot hide from ourselves, but it doesn't stop us from trying.

That freedom goes hand in hand with responsibility.

That there is enough strength in us to move ahead and set examples worth emulating.

Time Consumption

When you don’t have time, what do you spend your time on? Very important question! Time is of great essence and there are different priorities for different people. Underlying all of these, there is a need for keeping some time during the day, not only for exercising and keep fit but also for inner health. On the latter depends everything else. Life has many flavors, just like food, and to leave this world without tasting many, even if not all would be such a shame!

The full utilization of time would depend on where we are in the present moment and what we value at the time. No amount of other perception works. The change within gradually also shifts our priorities. I see that from my own life experiences.

It would be interesting to jot down how and in which way we prioritized through different phases in our lives and which important things we left behind. Good way to reacquaint ourselves with ourselves.

Futility of ruling the earth

There is no cure for closed minds. In Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna tries to counsel Arjuna who is so psyched about killing his family members that he closes his mind to Krishna's words.

We also have a Krishna sitting inside of us but our insecurities cloud our minds so much that Krishna finally decides to hold his counsel.

We are misled and ego driven souls who seek to rule the perishable earth whereas Krishna teaches becoming our own masters first so that we understand the futility of ruling the earth.

Conformist vs Non conformist!

Conformist vs Non conformist! Teamwork can negatively be described as toeing the line. A conformist likes to flow with the popular vote. Nothing wrong and no judgementalism. This is a required breed for evolving a consensus. And there is seldom any controversy related to such individuals.

A non conformist, however, is another kettle of fish. More daring, more assertive or aggressive, often self opinionated, these people can put up many backs. There is never a lack of excitement with them around. Conflict is almost inevitable. They might even defy the law of gravity and stand on their heads to prove a point. Their opinions can be creative and out of the box. They are definitely interesting and often, not liked very much for whom they are. You will see them in the forefront, performing unusual tasks because they are quite driven.

Just very interesting to observe both categories and realize how important it is to have both types of people in this world.

Peace Quotient

Emotional highs and lows in excess can play havoc. All our life, we react to events and people. When we are young, we can absorb a lot of the reactionary feelings. But with age, most people want peace and therefore, a stop to the frequent roller coaster trips.

Thankfully, there is an increasing awareness that what we can do for ourselves, no one can, however well meaning they are. No one can feel, bear and change for you. So, let us remind ourselves as soon as we wake up that we are going to have a beautiful day, uncluttered by any complex thoughts or emotions so that we increase our peaceful moments every day.

And let us trust that whatever is ordained will happen and we must respond and not react to it. This will take care of your peace quotient.

Meditation

Meditation and turning inward is as important as fulfilling external duties. We have seven main chakras out of which the lower three chakras represent our life on this earth, the heart is midway between the earth and divine chakras and links the two. And then the three upper chakras are the divine ones.

This itself is indicative of the fact that there has to be a balance between the physical and the Divine. The main issue is that we have not learnt the art of connecting the two.
