Practice

Your feelings are your own. You don’t need anyone to understand them. And no one really can. Because people can only judge you by surface reactions. No one has the time or interest to know you. And there is no need. You just need to know yourself. Because you don’t thrive on certificates by others but by knowing who you are and becoming immune to what people think of you. If only this one thing can be achieved, that is, immunity to other opinions of you, your personal progress can be accelerated. People always say this is very difficult. But it does become easier and more liberating with constant practice. Creation

The ultimate reality is that all creation is one. All humans are therefore, one. So, are we always going to be working from our ignorance and separating from each other through what appears to be but is an error of perception at best? And not what IS? Because we never focused on what IS! We are so superficial that we only judge through our habits and cultural differences! So, wearing a certain garb gives an identity to one but is seen as different from what another wears … and merely on such outward appearances, we distance ourselves. And religion does a lot of this. Little differences become huge and reasons to actually kill because of a complete intolerance of people who APPEAR different. I wonder why we cannot focus on the inner similarities and find it in our hearts to love each other! Plenty of similarities…. The colour of blood The body parts and organs The mind An intellect Memories Breath Consciousness Awareness … and so much else! So then, why are we so separatist in our thinking? And we talk about it ad nauseum But do nothing about it! Just some topic for conversation? And that’s it? Why? Because each of us is wanting change outside first. Right? Meaningful Existence

If I could select a theme for an epidemic, it would be love and light. I have discovered that our inner light dims because we allow it to. Because we depend on the external world for happiness but invariably get disappointed. And why not? That dependency is the wrong path. There is no permanency if anything out there. We feel incomplete around people. Because we compare, react, become needy and cloud our intrinsic selves with a whole lot of unwanted , undesirable layers of futile thoughts and reactions. It is when our light is shining bright that we can envelope everything else within it, like the sun that illuminates everything it touches with its rays. We can also be like the sun. Each one of us. If we stop focusing on our body and mind and identifying with it under the spell of a mass of illusion which takes us away from our true selves. The sooner we start dwelling on such thoughts, questioning our existence and reflecting upon it all to get some sound knowledge, the better we will feel. And the quicker our worlds will change into a meaningful existence. Creativity

It is my belief that everyone is endowed with creativity. It is a life skill or movement would be difficult in whichever path we take . I also believe that because we don’t develop multifarious interests and activities, we think we are not creative in certain fields which we haven’t dabbled in or focused on. All we have to do is educate ourselves on a new activity and soon, with the development of interest, creativity will also get enhanced. It will s exciting to get into new areas of activity. I can never agree when someone says, “I am not creative”. Surekha Kothari www.BodyMindSoulCentre.com surekhakothari.wordpress.com Speakingtree Blog: www.speakingtree.in/public/surekhakothari

Transformation

I had never thought of excess emotion as energy pollution but today, after studying Advaita Vedanta, I am beginning to understand why it is called pollution. It is a mind activity. And imbalanced emotions contribute to turmoil, stress, turbulence and more , spreading a lot of unhappiness all around. It is like cancer cells spreading without control, god forbid!

If we begin to understand that everything from people to relationships to mind, intellect, ego function as per our tendencies, maybe from this life or past lives, we would sit back and think. In either case, these are dangerous because they trigger imbalanced actions without giving a window to reflect before acting.

Fire is a wonderful purifier of the emotional energy pollution. Spend time in front of the fire. Light lamps or candles and meditate in front of them, especially when you are restless, agitated, with some amount of disturbance in the mind.

Nothing lasts! We just have to make an effort, sometimes a Herculean one, to regain our peace. And for this, there is nothing like sharing our love and caring with those less fortunate. Because, often, we become very selfish in our negative states of being.

And of course, befriend the fire element for beautiful transformations.

Path of detachment

Studying Advaita Vedanta is the best way to the path of detachment. When Shakespeare said, “ all the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players”, I did not realise the vastness of implications in that one statement.

Advaita Vedanta tells you the same thing by segregating transactional and ultimate reality. It comes as an amazing realisation that we are not who we claim to be when we identify with the body and mind. In fact, this puts us in a world of transactional reality where karma rules the cycle of birth and death.

The moment we start the process of elimination that we are not the body, not the mind, nor the intellect nor the body of desires we have accumulated, there descends  a tremendous sense of relief and lightness of being .

There is nothing and no one to get attached to. Yes, I have often been scoffed for this statement but believe me, as Echkart Tolle says, now is the time either to evolve or “die” , the latter meaning a metaphorical death.

Now, the choice is ours.  Are we going to carry on with our old ways of comparisons, judgements, hatreds , dislikes, manipulations etc or stop that completely useless baggage and see the light which is everywhere ? Only our inner light is dimmed by us, and none other .

So, we should know that one hundred percent responsibility for our souls is ours .  Yet, we are unable to detach from what we know to be futile in our journey, like a dog’s tail, however much it is straightened, comes back to being crooked.

But sooner or later, the circle of life’s mixed experiences , once exhausted, will bring us back to the point of elevation: the NEED to elevate as the only choice . That will be a brilliantly illuminated day for each of us.

Journey

How much can we accomplish just by study ? A lot ! It is the first step.

Reflecting on what we study is the next step. Reflecting will internalise knowledge upto a point.

However, without meditating on it, this 3 step plan is incomplete.

I don’t know why so many people shy away from meditation. We go through all kinds of variations of actions when we want something. Whether they are palatable or not. But that want , when it becomes a spiritual thirst, will start to direct us to what is the ultimate goal of us humans.

If not now, when will we embark on this wonderful journey of self discovery ?
