Perspective

There is no healing like a free and fair discussion between two people who have had an issue. You should value a relationship enough to keep the bonds going.

Always opt to build a bridge first. There is never any point in being drastic. And always try to see the other point of view. Even if you don’t agree with each other, talk it out, understand that perspectives are different, amicably agree to disagree and close the episode. With a little love and caring, you can do so. This attitude has maturity.

Of course, there is always the usual ego reaction which borders on the breaking of ties. This is rampant but very sad. It need not be.

This world is suffering from a major disconnection. And it is not doing humanity much good. Old ties are breaking and new ones forming. A natural family is getting diluted and friends are being called “extended family”. Isn’t that contradictory, this calling friends “family” when the original family is being torn apart? Ironic!

Our thinking is so topsy turvy, we don’t realize it’s all negative thought inspired by the ego, and nothing else.

Wisdom

There is never any end to discovering new aspects of our self every day. We are so unlimited actually but still so limited when it comes to our conscious mind dealings. Our awareness is basically confined to what our senses can discern.

When we look beyond, we see a sub conscious mind which holds our many secrets! Many memories! Much lingering feelings we have not healed.

So it is that we suffer, due to the triggers that force a certain kind of behavior. And it seems to bubble up from nowhere.

Healing becomes difficult when we either think wrong or have no time for reflecting. Or even when we hold onto everything we should drop immediately.

Wisdom is the only answer. That dawns when we start looking into and accepting ourselves. Only then, having seen our flaws, will we have the incentive to correct them.

This won’t happen unless we bare ourselves to ourselves.

Process of healing

Sometimes, in order to heal, you have to let your heart break into a million pieces first. And accept that it is so.

So many generalisations ! So many pre conceived notions ! And an equal amount of expectations ! Certainly not a good recipe for living life.

So, wake up to the trigger and start the process of healing. It is called balance, equanimity and realising our own intrinsic nature, independent and not beholden to any soul, yet connected to all.

Motivation

A huge realisation that this pandemic has forced into us is , just how much valuable time we have wasted and lost in pursuing just worldly pleasures, if I can call them pleasures in my mistaken sense of perception.

And I don’t mean for a moment that one must not enjoy life. It is just that our definition of enjoyment has become very meaningless and unspiritual. We find enjoyment in trivia, meaning that there is not much value prevalent in certain activities. Trivia that sometimes brings out the worst in us.

Can I learn to balance my day to include a balance of these ? It is commonplace to quote,” all work and no play….”. But that is not accurate in this case.

Seekers of higher truths are few and far between but if goodness can be brought in within the realm of spirituality, then that is definitely a start.

Next, we must define goodness. To me, it is defined by a single line: “do unto others as you would have others do unto you”. Eliminate double or multiple standards to embark on a rightful path first.

Think before you dole out anything but goodness, because this is what you also expect from others. So, you cannot superimpose your will on anyone.

But we do it all the time.. people think they are good but what they do has nothing to do with goodness… all kinds of reasons and excuses taint our intrinsic goodness. And the worst part is, we tend to justify our actions all the time.

I would definitely say that if we start with a little bit of self healing ( and there are innumerable techniques available) , we can start a process which will certainly benefit us. The intention is first. Next is motivation and then commitment.

So be it !Surekha Kothari

Spiritual energy

The faith in Shirdi Sai Baba escalates by the day. Youngsters are being drawn into Sai baba temples and bhajan groups. He is a Mahatma in Kalyug who is a spiritual energy like other elevated souls. Then how come he has become so popular? People claim to have even seen him.
What comes to mind is that there are no heavy rituals around him. No dress codes in his temples, no discrimination of gender, caste, creed and religion. No old baggage of politicization of spirituality.
He is a healer and a saint, a recent one. The new generation understands him in the context of equality of human and devotional rights.
When monopolistic sects try to retain their hold over and attempt to force old, discriminatory belief systems, they don’t realize that it is a matter of time before they will be forced to step aside to allow for a new human order . The agitation for equality in every way can’t be stopped nor its tide stemmed.
Sai baba has been projected as a saint who helps people without any vested interest and in today’s commercial world, this comes as a breath of fresh air. Youngsters want to believe in the path of love and goodness. And they don’t understand the older religions which should have give peace but are steeped in conflict and human destruction.
Sai Baba comes as an anchor and a faith that humans desperately want to peg their spirituality on.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness in each present moment has the power to erase all past recordings of all lifetimes. Sounds easy? It sure can be. But we constantly remind ourselves that it is NOT easy. Why because, actually, we don't want to let go.
Just imagine. When we are in a crowd, do we remember what happened ten years ago, while we are being jostled and pushed? Naturally not because we are busy trying to keep our balance and prevent ourselves from falling, getting injured right?
But when a crowd of memories jostle and push your mind, the tendency is to let them knock you down and injure you, isn't it? And your whole personality can change drastically in reaction to these injuries.
But, while being mindful in the present moment, you are focused on just what is happening in that moment. And it therefore, takes that one instant to forget all else. And if you can continue practicing this, one day, you will reach a state of constant mindfulness.

Surprise test

We are very quick to brand life as unfair when things don't go our way. As if life were a person giving us a hard time! Sounds funny, right? But we do this all the time. And then people get linked to the unfairness of life.
When something good happens, we take it as entitlement and forget it so quickly. We always feel we deserve the best of everything and not a moment of the opposite.
But who said so? Who developed a foolproof package to be delivered to the "deserving?" No answer! Whatever good that comes our way as freebies or good luck is a bonus for the hard work we may have put in. Nothing is a coincidence.
But what we call “adverse" is also what we deserve at that moment. Surprise tests! As we had in school, we always had to be prepared.
Hmmm. Time to draw parallels in our lives!

Learning

I have learnt that what is inside is outside and we attract people, events and situations accordingly to inevitably experience our karma. I have this personal theory that every road we choose to traverse will have some karma experience for each of us.
This reminds me of many tales we heard as children. I am able to relate to them and connect with them majorly. The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland and many more. In each of these, so many wonderful animals, nature and other creatures came out to help unconditionally. These tales are really like life. On every path, help is available in different forms. And every experience a new learning. We see new signs.
So, even today, I go back to the fairy tales with joy in my heart because they were simple and profound and are symbolic for us even now. And they make you a child again which is a real bonus . Most of us have forgotten how to become children again. As they say, a child is the father of man.
