Realization

Ironically, the day you start healing is the day you realize that you really have no control over anything anyone says, thinks, understands (or misunderstands) or acts. You realize that you are constantly pushing yourself or being pushed into corners all the time.

And suddenly, the tipping point happens and you just invert the bag of baggage into a dust bin instead of your mind becoming the dustbin where the unnecessary baggage should have been thrown out long ago.

I guess karma could also be a sudden realization after a lot of struggle. That change could be lifesaving, better, soul saving.

Any realization comes with awareness. When, how and why will depend on our own reflection.

Reflection and Practice

Sometimes, when we start talking about spiritual thought, we also run the risk of a little spiritual arrogance! There are many texts being quoted but little reflection and practice.

There are no mountains to climb but simple steps towards uncovering our spiritual base which we have, sometimes in our ignorance, covered with confused thoughts. We may be led to think we are on the right track but we may not be.

Overt behavior sometimes is judged as non-spiritual. It need not be. Our basic nature prevails unless we work on it. But human goodness can still be lurking within. Superficial judgements can be completely off the mark.

Humans have a tendency to judge people superficially because generally, they see only the surface of a person. Whereas, the teal person can be very different.

Therefore, both judging people and gossiping speaks of the shallowness of the people who indulge in it.

Let us get out of both tendencies because we have been the victims of both at one time or another and we definitely have not enjoyed the experience. So why indulge in them at all?

Personal Reflection

In relationships, how much are you doing merely for show and how much you really do with genuine feeling should be analyzed. We are in the habit of fooling ourselves!

And often we genuinely also believe that we are doing things for the right reasons! But really speaking, we all like to believe this about ourselves. It can be far from the truth.

Virtue is not partial. It is universal. We cannot call ourselves virtuous if this only shows up sometimes.

It is so easy to blame others based on the past. We all do this… keep hardcore memory about what was done years back. We tend to forget all the good that we also saw in people years ago. No memory there! Only blame continues.

Anyways, the onus is on us ultimately. We can believe in humans or malign them. Or we can mend fences and build bridges without judgement and while giving chances to some valuable relationships gone wrong due to expectations and blame, misunderstanding and negativity.

… and before we start accusing anyone, there are no exceptions to imperfect humans. Let us not be under any illusions that one is better or worse. Because if we have changed for the better in some aspects, we still have work to do on many other aspects. So, to keep any form of ego would be a mistake.

If all aspects evolve, we would all be Buddha. But, with a little change, we become more egoistic than humble and detached like Buddha.

Immediately, we start comparing with the others who might appear less evolved.

This is why each one has to look within and bare our misdeeds to ourselves so that we can accept the complicated thought processes we carry in terms of our fabricated psyches. They don’t have much to do with our reality.

But yes, real change happens only with pure awareness, acceptance and personal reflection.

Cleansing

Reflecting on the behavior on others is really futile. The mind is a vast ocean of desires, many complexities, memories and negativities along with the positives. It is the former that really persist. Somehow, the mind has a tendency to dwell only on its own well-being. And so, the ego will distort the truth a million times over for that false sense of well-being. The modern-day human is so acquisitive that the prime feeling prevalent is a feeling of being threatened that some people seem better off in some aspects. It is so evident that fear rules. The fear of loss! Ironically, whatever we fear losing is already lost because it was never ours. And yet, we hanker after this mirage and see a falsity that masquerades as reality. Minds are so afflicted that what is termed as “normal” is often just a figment of imagination, often a delusion. And far away from the actual reality. The worst is trying to cleanse our inner pollution while surrounded by polluted minds. An uphill task, for sure! Many give up because it seems an impossible climb! Yet, we have to start. The alternatives to this will lead us nowhere. Surekha Kothari www.BodyMindSoulCentre.com surekhakothari.wordpress.com Speakingtree Blog: www.speakingtree.in/public/surekhakothari

Perspectives

A popular thought: if God brings you to it, HE will take you through it”. As we go through life, with each onslaught, we begin to get stronger and stronger. As they say, if it doesn’t kill you, it HAS to make you stronger.

When I see my loved ones having to live without people they loved very much, and living with grace, I realize that we really have no business to be anything other than compassionate. And live with courage. And self respect.

Every second day, there is news of someone getting unwell. There is always news of families breaking apart. There is enough misery to cope with. And enough support to be given.

I really don’t know what to say about people who get so selfish in their ego that they don’t recognize even those who care for them. Their loss, I guess. They have not learnt to count their blessings. Or, are in a whirlpool of mixed emotions where they don’t want to know that they also could be riddled with faulty perspectives.

Ignorance

The hardest thing is to let go and let people walk away. As hard as it is to walk away from people who have contributed to happy memories. Tough to convince yourself that their role in your life is over and yet, to remember that they are your soul connections from many lives. Good to remember that they play a part in your life as you do in theirs.
How intense is attachment? And how painful, too. And worse is when, in ignorance, you begin to react badly to them when you don't need to. We all just play a role.
But how difficult it is to make you believe this! How very intense and illusory is attachment!

Aspects of life

You know, there is a need for each one of us to seek as much exposure to the various aspects of life as possible because only by observing the lives of others, different situations arising out of who you are and how much you earn and how honed a personality you have ended up becoming....
There are people who live in their own little world who just don't develop themselves because they are just too myopic or fearful.
You can easily educate yourself on your own. Provided you want to. You just need interest, attitude and time, apart from being like a sponge and imbibing and imbibing more and more, internalizing the information and then making the necessary changes to your thinking and emotions.
We tend to look at people very superficially and tend to shun people who we don't understand instead of trying to understand them and learning something we don't know.

Packaging of knowledge!

Packaging of knowledge! Every generation responds to what it can understand and can get convinced about. Today, there is a huge movement towards spiritual understanding amongst youngsters. PROVIDED it is presented in a manner that they can relate to.
We still have the traditional, religious concepts like deity worship etc. And that is fine because it is the faith that carries us through, wherever we place it. But in a knowledge based generation, the "why" of every belief, every sentiment, and every action must be answered. Ironically, we have to explain logically the phenomena that are beyond logic.
This is precisely why the Bhagvad Gita is the most widely read and studied today. It is a way of life and even spirituality has to be understood as a way of life.
The meaning of dharma, karma , cause and effect , and all the laws that the Universe would have us live by must be experienced and not just talked about. Doubts must be addressed and cleared and this can only be done by practicing them and observing results. Only then can convictions become a reality.

Digesting success!

Digesting success! It is a social issue which increases with more materialism incorporating elements like excess wealth, celebrity status and the power that accompanies these, often bringing in a certain amount of carelessness, even callousness and riding slip shod over people because with a head in the clouds, looking down is not a virtue in possession.

Spiritually, these are often not compatible because of what they do to the psyche. It is only the odd person who can digest “success” in terms of good karma being rewarded and therefore, gratitude.
But there is a little good news…

Today, the tolerance to myopic attitudes is wearing thin. The wheel is turning once more towards the universal values and against self centered thoughts and actions at the cost of others.
Today, gradually, right is being applauded as right and wrong as wrong. I guess we are fed up of artifice, might is right, the attitude that the end justifies the means and the economic disparities which continue to make it difficult for the common man to keep a certain standard, especially when there is so much available that money can buy today.. And it doesn't help to have glaring publicity and opulence for those few who have much and state it every minute with their attitudes, their lifestyles and not enough demonstration of improving the lot of the masses in the country.
No, I am not either a communist or an anti capitalist. But I do believe in values like stooping when tall, humble when successful and contributing to creating a balanced society in every way.

Genuine

The ingenuity of the human mind can conjure up "genuine" reasons and justifications for actions and behavior. We are masters at the game of illusions which are a product of our creativity.
But there is only one reality. Sooner or later, we will arrive at that. Rather, we will HAVE to arrive at that. Like a derailed train or delayed train that might reach its destination late...how late would depend on how soon the obstacles can be cleared. Life is pretty much like that. The difference is, in our case, only we can clear those blocks and obstacles. We can go round and round but ultimately, we have to find our path to reality. If we won't exercise the right choices, we will be led to the right choice....
