Contagious
The word "contagious" has been
coming to mind often. A smile is obviously contagious. But then, a viral is
also contagious. Is contagiousness an automatic response? Someone smiles at you
and you automatically smile back.
But sadly, generosity is not. Charity is
not. Kindness and compassion are not. Love , the divine energy, is always in
short supply.
I would like to say that hatred and envy
are not. But when I see the cut throats society today, I can't help feeling
that somewhere, some lethal virals like merciless pursuits of power and money
became contagious and brought the ethical and moral values down, thus bringing
society down. When we started living for ourselves, we forgot to be connected
and so, did not respond to external stimuli. And without that, where is the
question of anything being contagious ? We don't possess the band width for it.

Charity
An action that is respected is that which
is performed with grace. Its value is enhanced manifold. As long as there is
life, give and take is an inevitable part of it. What is important is that
grace is not only in giving but also in taking. There are people who keep
giving but refuse to accept. That energy becomes one sided. There are also
people who give very condescendingly and from a space of ego driven
"charity". No grace there.
I know someone whose charities came to
light after he passed on, to the amazement of his own family. Today, we need to
advertise in the papers and media that we donated an x amount to an x charity.
No grace there.
Let the giving be between you and God and
treat specially those you give to , with utmost kindness and respect , almost
as if It is YOUR need to give and not theirs to take, because it is not easy
for everyone to accept while being made to feel small.

Kindness
Kindness is not an oft seen virtue,
especially among equals. Doling out charity is not necessarily seen as
kindness. There could be other motives. There is real merit in reaching a stage
where kindness can be meted out because it becomes your intrinsic nature. When
you can actually look at people and not worry about whom they are because you
have understood who YOU are. Reach that state and very little matters.
