Judgement

Human beings struggle with their deep insecurities and a lot of fear. On this base, they create need based relationships which they give titles to, like “friendship”. There is seldom any trust and faith. There is more judgement on how we can put our best foot forward to retain this quality of bonhomie. And fear that one wrong word or action can remove you from the relationship. If we cannot find comfort in an association, will it last? Perhaps only if we agree to keep paying a price with our own self. And that becomes painful after a point.

I think there is loneliness in groups today because we cannot be our authentic selves and pretense and compromise become very exhausting. So exhausting that sometimes, we ourselves want to distance ourselves from joining group activity. The same goes for one to one relationships. Nothing can endure without faith and trust. Can it? Can we re-establish our base then, to faith and trust?

Tolerance

We are still unable to come to terms with inclusiveness, tolerance and acceptance. We conflict over religion. We debate about our national language. We have forgotten to piece the jigsaw puzzle together to make a wholesome picture that we can all be proud of.

We have a wonderful example of different kinds of trees coexisting and contributing to our eco system unanimously.

It is amazing that in a “friends” chat group, we have to refrain from anything political or religious. Opinions can cause massive rifts and boycotts even if they are rational discussions. Everyone walks on egg shells. Truth is multipronged! There is no single root. This is nothing but intolerance. The deep need of conversion also is perhaps rooted in people feeling threatened by any kinds of different belief systems and therefore, wanting clones to co-exist, to create a comfort zone for insecure people.

Culturally, earlier, we supported one code of conduct which everyone had to follow, and that body of principles made us a strong and cohesive body of people. This had no bearing on the religion people followed. It was a set of principles for a creation and sustenance of human harmony.

We are now paying a high price for individual egoism. The “I am right” factor. Gone are the trends that brought and kept people together. It is all about “me and myself”. We see this seeping into group activities, too.

Basic respect for everyone, no matter how different they seem to be on the surface would start the peace process.

I have a question. Those who are judgmental and non-accepting of others … do you accept yourselves ?

Truth

What is fair? What is just? And what is truth? Actually, there isn’t any simple answer. Because we are constantly exposed to so many angles of the same story, so many different perspectives, that we arrive at our personal perspective and understanding of the truth and take that as gospel truth. Our convictions are also based on several viewpoints which culminate into one so called “truth. And we hold onto it at the cost of conflict with another person’s views. But truth lies somewhere between all these perspectives and our understanding may not be quite there. That is why it is not wise to judge. You really don’t know. What you think you know may not be anywhere close to the truth. And therefore, it is not really wise to get into discussions of this nature. So, better not to claim to know and hence, avoid judgements. Surekha Kothari www.BodyMindSoulCentre.com surekhakothari.wordpress.com Speakingtree Blog: www.speakingtree.in/public/surekhakothari

Compromise

I have realised that we aught not to ever compromise the lightness of our being. For anyone or anything.

We tend to become heavy whenever we deal with emotions , triggered by our love concern for others or even by our own experiences based on our perceptions of ourselves… which trigger our own reactions. At such times, it is important to step back immediately and examine the quality of those incoming thoughts.

Yes, we are mostly reacting. Not responding. A response is a thoughtfully created effect to a cause. This is what we need. We don’t need a trigger for our negativity to show . We should know that THAT does not come from a good place. It is in fact, an indication for which spaces we need to clean up within us.

Like, our constant need to be judgemental about others when we need that finger pointed towards ourselves. Clean ourselves to better our image in our own mirror. It’s a single point agenda.

Purity of intention

Our points of view create our reality , not the other way round. But we don’t take the responsibility of creating our own future. We prefer to blame the world, the power centres and everyone else. We don’t think we are important in helping create that reality which is currently ours.

What can we do to shift our gears into what kind of a world we want to live in ? We are constantly looking for that one person or people to make our world better. But only WE can make our worlds better. We just don’t get it !

Any salutary action, any small shift into the light can work as an inspiration to so many . And soon, waves of benevolence will be created. I can CHOOSE to be who I want to be. And this has absolutely nothing to do with anyone but each of us. We can influence, inspire hope and a higher consciousness in those around us. And alleviate the hopelessness around.

The thing is , the tools to heal even in tough times like these are simple. Provided we keep ourselves simple. If only we could just feel the elements outside and within us and leave all judgement there ever has been.

If we don’t start, we never reach anywhere. It is so easy to get embroiled in the trivia of this world. Let us light our lamp and then those of others with our purity of intentions. .. to light up the world.

Challenge

Developing crutches is really not such a good thing. Dependency can become a habit and the inner strength to deal with circumstances gets lost somewhere deep down. It is precisely the challenges of life and our gracious adjustments to them that bring out the strength in us . It is closely related to an attempt to become largely self reliant by living within our means.

An inability to chop and change our lifestyles makes us acquire crutches of many kinds. We are all in different stages of evolution and so, must understand that adversity confronts us just to challenge that spirit within us which is a toolkit that has every solution , provided we stay calm and positive. That itself is a challenge.

There is no need to live a life that is under the microscope of people. Every life is, to an extent, under a microscope and vulnerability to this aspect promotes the crutch syndrome .  Because the judgement of others becomes important enough to become a crutch for life.

When opinions start mattering, the energy levels dip and we lose the wholesomeness of our spirit. So, a word of caution ! YOU matter to yourself. Period. How do you feel about this aspect ? How many crutches do we walk on in the name of love and needs ?
