Social etiquette

Sometimes, I think this irritation of people with fake news is really unjustified. It is WE who have invited it. We have created a market for it. It’s almost like a child telling a lie ever so often that everyone just laughs it off but the child continues lying because it has a license now. Through indulgence by the elders instead of instant correction.

Think ! How long have we worked to convert the society into a fake one. Yes, when individuals start to become fake themselves , gradually, the “fake” is supported and encouraged . Why ? Because fake behaviour, as in pretentious and false , gets you everywhere... or so people think. That is the attitude today

“Straight from the heart” is not in fashion. In fact, it is mainly a perceived as a weakness. “Social etiquette” is making yourself popular through massive doses of artificial sweeteners. No one wants bitter gourd juice anymore , the bitter taste of which conceals innumerable health benefits.

It is so amazing to sit back and watch how the hypocritical gets wonderful results while frank speak gets shunned. That’s why there are fewer people on the path of dharma.

But, you have to ask those who are genuinely simple and heart driven people whether THEY want to seek out the fake. You will find that they are pretty intolerant of this.

Aren’t we just a little bit exhausted trying to live a life that does not define us ? Actually, do we even know what defines us ? Worse still, do we WANT to know ? Not unless we start facing the truth about ourselves. And for this, we need to leave the fake world behind even if it means moving into a new space, which syncs with our true selves.

Relationships

When we face hardships, some of us become very hard. And some of us become very malleable and vulnerable. A hard shell gets not only rigid but very defensive. We don't want people to look at us because we assume people will pity us.

This is not true as a general feeling. There are people who care genuinely, not pity. But we have a tendency to shun affection because we misunderstand even affectionate gestures as arising out of pity. Not only is this sad but a sign of ego. When we insist of returning every affectionate gesture with affection, it is beautiful. But when we fail to accept graciously as much as we expect others to accept graciously from us, THEN it is false pride and we must learn to understand the subtle difference. Relationships are delicate.

Conversations

As you age with experiences, now on an emotional high and on a low the next minute, with all kinds of upheaval and painful learning, there comes a time when everything levels out and you just count your blessings every day. And everything is a bonus, either to make you happy or teach you lessons.

I guess negativity is so exhaustingly futile that this realization is enough to shun it. Whether you allowed it through people or situations, it never helped, only hindered, most importantly, your personal growth.

So, these days, one is left talking to oneself about these things if not to God. My conversations with God are on the increase. Nice to know you have a friend you can talk to about just about everything and who knows you so well. Answers come from within when you genuinely ask. Quite amazing!
