Motivation

If you depend on other people to motivate you, you are on shifting sands. If a word of appreciation is a trigger to do your best, you can be swinging between movement and inertia.

May a time, you feel,” wow! I never knew I could do this!” But someone comes and brings down your castle of self-esteem in a flash by poking many holes in your edifice of creative joy. Sometimes, it may be just an honest opinion aired irresponsibly! But if it affects you, it will certainly hamper your productivity at least for a while. Which is why the courage of your own convictions should override everything else. Because everyone looks at you with a different lens. But yours IS the best lens. It has the power of thought, intention, creativity AND motivation before the final action. And it is YOU all the way, which is most important.

Gratitude

Someone has rightly said that success without planning is luck. And success with effort and struggle is an achievement. Envy therefore, has no value. All of us can create our own goals and work hard to achieve them. There is no other way, unless the credit balance of your “punya” gives you a place you perhaps did not “earn”. Like, being born into a wealthy family.

One really has to reflect very seriously and deeply on where one’s journey is each moment. And how much one is capable of in terms of truthfully assessing the self. We do tend to block what we don’t intrinsically like about ourselves, but cannot change.

New experiences need courage. Comfort and repetitive living will keep you from growth. One way to start the process of growth is to question everything we think, say and do. The weeds need to be pulled out, however painful, for the plant to grow in a healthy way.

Every year, we make resolutions. Some of us fall back into tested patterns and achieve more stagnation of the mind. Unable to heal our hurts and complexes, understanding that we can start afresh from the day the realization dawns that our thinking is not growth oriented.

There is so much accent on self-help today. We need to make an intention and immerse ourselves in this attempt while doing our usual routine. As they say, anything, even a mundane chore, can be done in different ways and joy derived from it. All we need is a simple mind with a clear intention.

And let us not forget the people who have nurtured us, even if it was a ” cruel to be kind” attitude in an attempt to teach us the right values. Respect for all forms of life is imminent in our journey to find ourselves. Because it is linked with how much we respect ourselves. So, love and compassion are the two most vital prerequisites for personal evolution. For us and others. They start with gratitude and blessings for one and all.

Wisdom

“ What do we expect from life and from people ?” We can all go ballistic about what we expected and what we didn’t receive.  It is the worst cycle to get into. It is unending. When you are able to break this only will you be free for meaningful movement.

It is strange but a fact of experience that rewards are incidental. What we need to do is our karma , based on certain human principles which give us respect in our own eyes.

But, what we do is the opposite. Our karma is based on our feelings, our likes, our prejudices … when this happens, we deviate from our principles and pollute our karma. We become unsteady. Imbalanced !

The path of principled living should not be given up for anyone because it is your path of spiritual evolution. No one , however near and dear in this life, can walk it with you or even help you, except a benevolent and compassionate guru. Even your children are born through you but are not yours. Their souls are on a different journey.

Why then do we still use expectations as crutches and are unable to understand that for whatever good we do here , the points accumulate in the Divine Order ?

Act with good intention and faith and surrender the actions to the Almighty. Do you really think people understand where you are coming from ? Each one of us is too deep for anyone else to understand us. And when they don’t understand, they are bound to ascribe motives.

Meaningless ! It is more our ignorance that spurs us on, not our wisdom !

Wisdom

Sometimes, the shocks life gives you leave you numb and speechless. But it is silly to react so emotionally. People can be callous and cruel. Are you going to give them more power, more energy by hurting? That would be foolish.
Wisdom lies in choosing when to take anyone seriously. Hopefully, never to take anyone seriously like they say, take it with a pinch of salt. Though why they give salt so much importance, I don’t know may be, because salt retains water in the body and similarly, egos bloat people.
So, take a chill pill and move in life like a free spirit. No encumbrances, especially when it comes to undeserving people around you. Not worth killing yourselves with numbness or shock.
Like my guru said, be a witness. No one belongs to you and you don’t belong to anyone. Nature is unfathomable. It is said that a baby scorpion kills its mother after its birth. Is it a surprise then to see what humans can do?

Consistency

That prayers bring results is really to be experienced because it is a fact. Genuine and pure intention is a brownie point in our favour. What we call genuine surrender just seems to bring a new hope, a new kind of calm and peace. These are not permanent though, and one requires a daily cleansing through prayer.
We are all past masters at desiring instant success in everything. But that’s not how it works. Consistency of purity and prayer cannot fail. What fails or falters is our faith.

Soul connection

Someone asked a question the other day. If you are close to two people and they fall out with each other over an issue, whose side would you take? A loaded question for sure. A tough one, too ideally, everyone would like to maintain both relationships. And why not, since you were never the involved party. Why do you have to be torn between the two anyway, right?
But there it is. Sometimes, there WILL be a tug of war and then? If you gave the courage, you should be on the side of what is right, and not the person involved.
But, right might be what appears to each person as a different perspective. When both people think they are right, what happens then? We invariably become fence sitters in the name of tact and diplomacy. The thought being," I don't want to spoil my relationships. Let them work
It’s out. It may not always be that simple when people are expecting you to take sides.
In life, there will be cases such as these or some others, where people may go away from you. And prefer to stay away for no fault of yours. It is okay. It doesn't matter. It is not your business to worry about the why's and how's. A clear conscience is the only yardstick we should use. And after that, let people stay if they will and let go if they won't. There will always be a soul connection.

Self help

It is a pity we don't make a special effort to find pointers to solutions within ourselves. Others can help you only to an extent. No one knows your story the way you do. And the Universe does. And it also helps when you start to engage with it.
Small instances about intentions working! We were standing in front of an immigration desk, awaiting our turn. The man behind the desk was angry and had sent out one lady rudely for some mistake made. We were wishing we were in another line but it was too late.
And lo and behold! Just before our turn came, the man got up and was replaced by a pleasant woman. And we were through like a shot.
Many such experiences later, I have concluded that self help is complete help and always works if you are in sync with the purity of your intention and surrender before asking for help.
