Emotions and pain

The common theory is that the caliber and mettle of a human being is how he or she braves the hardships in life. This is what we are taught. Grin and bear it, or grit your teeth. Clench your fists ... etc.
But there is also another side to this. Bottling up emotions and pain can have significant side effects. Sooner or later, they could spiral into major health setbacks.
The only way you can assimilate pain of any kind is by not letting it sink into your cellular memory. Physical pain can be forgotten once it is treated. But emotional pain as also mental agony get registered and continue to give pain even after the event. We have to guard against this.
Always have avenues of releasing this kind of pain, in whichever way, before it becomes a deep wound.

Ambitions

We do many things out of being misguided. One of the most tragic ones is living through your children. Life often fails to give you what you want. That is sad. But for you to force your children to take the path you wanted to is definitely an injustice to them. Ambitions cannot be imposed upon anyone externally. Besides, that was your life. This is theirs.
Ironically, we repeat what our parents did to us that are, not letting the kids have the freedom to choose, to make independent but informed decisions.
Children who are bulldozed into deviating from their desired goals are often angry and frustrated later in life, likewise with children trying to wreak vengeance on behalf of their parents or loved ones.
It is our duty to guide our kids alright, but not coerce them and on no account, to make them into anything but wholesome individuals.

The quality of the gifts

"Can love be measured by the hours in the day?" This line from the song from the movie "Love Story" is one of the most beautiful lines I have heard. Can love be measured, period? What is its measure, in any relationship?
Is it the amount of time spent together? Is it the number of gifts exchanged the quality of the gifts? Maybe, branded gifts as a measure of love? Or, daily calls? ... I don't know. All these seem to be very important today.
I wonder if empty hands but a heart full of love would suffice? Would it show in the warmth of affection in my eyes? In my smile that lights up my face? In my bear hug greeting in my travelling miles to be with someone on a special day. In the pain I feel ....or if my day starts and ends with someone.
I wonder at how people judge you and consider you fit for their friendship or love. What would be that criteria?
I wonder how people measure love in its many forms. How many forms do they see? How many are they able to see? And how do they interpret what they see.
I wonder.......all the time.... why there is no common benchmark for love which can sustain the peace and togetherness on this earth.
