Calmness

My guru asked me whether, while meditating, time is slow to pass or passes quickly without my noticing it. And I realized that this is the measure of how successful your first level of meditation is. Some people struggle to sit for those few minutes and some lose track of time.
The latter happens when you actually start enjoying the meditation, when you become peaceful, not necessarily because all thoughts stop but because you learn to observe your thoughts dispassionately. And don’t allow them to affect your inner calm and peace.
People misunderstand the concept of meditation and think it is going to be a drastic and permanent shift. But it won’t be though you CAN increase your hours of meditation gradually to times when you are working, eating, even conversing, by keeping your inner core unaffected and steady with calmness.

Journey in darkness

From small excuses to big lies is a journey in darkness with many pitfalls and no one to light a candle. Everyone makes excuses once in a while. The danger is when these excuses become frequent and become lies because the formula works each time!
But the difference between lies and truth is a big one. Truth is clear and you live by it. Lies however, need a hiding place. Truth is never “found out”. Lies ARE Truth, even if harsh, is respected. Lies are not.
So, we must bring in more awareness into ourselves and try and clean up our act, our habits which don’t really serve us in the long run, and may ruin our relationships as well.

Prime Importance

It is really important to know why we do certain things. Why we think in a certain way. Why we react in a particular manner. Is any of this coming under the justification category ? Or is it our lopsided view of the world, people or even ourselves ?
I find there are people who are out to attack you for simple , unintentional and caring ways. They need to look deep down within themselves to see exactly WHAT plagues them. There are conflict areas in everyone’s lives. But to know who to trust and even what to trust is of prime importance.
It is so much easier to preach than to practice. Because the awareness may be only externally oriented.
The ones that go in to their own dark corners will see light sooner than those who block their inner light but continue to work for external value. Of course, value there will be for the world to see. But inner growth ? That comes with inner virtues which are honed painstakingly and from within, ripping apart the thick layers on the mind that create a continuous cloud over the light. But it is for each one of us to realise that. Ironically, this doesn’t come through even “Satsang” . Feeling good momentarily is different from feeling good in the moment and in every moment. And that happens only when we become simple , pure and transparent like glass. Like channels through which God can work.

Possibilities

Fickle mindedness and unreliability are two extremely undesirable traits in a human being. Many allied vices stem from these. Firstly, these people are not true to anyone, not even themselves. Their pretence levels are very high. Probably masters of the game. Secondly, they evidently live for themselves, whimsical and undependable. Lacking depth, maybe, and living on the surface. Changing their minds like they would change clothes, but very sweet spoken and could fool anyone except those discerning few.
I often hear people say such people are happier because they don't succumb easily to feelings of sadness, helplessness, frustration etc. Possible, if they think only of themselves most of the time, but happier? I don't know about that.
