Lesson

Some management principles teach you to apply them in other aspects of life as well. Learning about leadership and teamwork was an important lesson.

A leader HAS to be a good team player. You have to carry your team with you. In families and groups, too, this is the duty of a family head or heads or group leaders.

When practiced, it needs many qualities: the humility to listen to other viewpoints, the awareness that others could have the wisdom to teach you a few lessons, the ability to be an alchemist, to bring out the best in everyone including you, not letting the ego dominate, not being judgmental … etc.

After all, the workplace comprises of human beings. We just need to incorporate elevating habits to achieve our goals.

Determination

Everywhere, you hear people lamenting about how goodness does not pay. What do we aspire for in return for it? What payment? It is strange that we have to be calculating here as well. I always thought it had everything to do with qualities like caring, wanting the best for someone, protecting someone, looking out for someone etc.
Well, as people close to me say, I live in an alternate world and am completely clueless about where the world is today. Not quite! It is one thing to know where it is and another to agree with everything it stands for.
Even today, respect is earned with the same old “obsolete” values. More so, because a majority is moving away from them that their value is ever increasing.
Yes, they are considered to be outdated because it is too much work for the rapid climbers today. Yet, when we see someone way above in ethics, in moral code of conduct, the discerning among us must realize it as a tough call requiring a lot of faith in oneself and the determination to go it alone if one has to, to respect oneself first before others respect you. Absolutely commendable!
Of course, those who have travelled a long way, away from home, are kind of lost and don’t want to be told this. And so, they have to find their way back to their core. Until then, the way out is waiting and praying.

Understanding of people

When you develop an understanding of people and can muster up a kind of X-ray vision into their thoughts and predictable reactions or responses, life becomes very interesting . More than that, you begin to see it all as if you were watching a movie. You know what is going on and what is coming next.
What I discovered about this is that it kind of stops affecting your life after a while. You tend to get a little detached from what is unfolding before you.
I have stopped asking myself, “ what if ? Could I have ? Should I have ? “ etc etc. Because I can’t avoid the outcome. I think I could have done it this way or that way. But could I really have ?
So, getting immune is the best way to go.

Consequences

I have realized that to be critical of yourself and hard on yourself can turn out to be a huge punishment in your future life and can really alter the quality of your life. To feel guilty, remorseful is human up to a point. But all your life ? Even to kick yourself for not doing things in a different way and looking at an undesirable outcome can really psyche you into believing you are inadequate or foolish or whatever tag you want to give yourself. Before others do it, you are doing it to yourself.
It makes no difference though. When the arrow leaves the bow, it will pierce something somewhere. Remember the story of Shravan kumar ? The king was innocent but had to bear the consequences of hitting the wrong target.
We do this very often out of our ignorance or misguided ness even. But having said that, what next is the moot question. How are we going to deal with a situation which was not in our control ? Or we thought it was but..... it has happened in a certain way. That is the reality.
This is the point at which wisdom comes in. Life has never been black and white. The shades of grey are what make you move through life. Solutions have to be found for our own well being . And if we have to bear consequences, we have to simply bear them.

Happy energy

Who is the enemy? Over a lifetime, we develop enmity with a few people extreme word and also a deeper form of dislike. We often remark,” With such friends, you don’t need enemies”. And you begin to stay away from these few people, get restless when you see them or have to be within their vicinity.
But, who is the real enemy here? The actual enemy is within. It is that negative patch of dislike that WE harbor for someone. And because we have not been able to cleanse it, it reflects in the others. Just as, if you hate your face in the mirror and try to hit it, it is your hand that will bleed. And once you heal your hand, the mirror reflection will also show a healed hand.
Hence, don’t look for external enemies. The enemy within you is your memory reactions. That’s all. Good to
Just let go of those memories or transmute them into happy energy.

Perspectives

Someone said the other day, and many others say it too, that there should always be a balance of heart and head. Using only the heart doesn't work and neither does using only the brain. The former results in much pain and being taken for granted and the latter might make you hard and calculating.
But, to complicate matters a bit, there are changing proportions on a daily basis. How much of each would make for a working balance. And therein lies the catch.
The heart is automatically made synonymous with goodness. And the brain with logic, intelligence often moving down the grid to being calculative, many perspectives and several ways of looking at this.
However, the underlying truth is that both must be used.

Success and admiration

This choice of either following or leading is just like giving a choice of birth and death but forgetting to focus on the importance of the journey between the two points. When you ask someone to either follow or lead, you perhaps ask for a very simplistic choice.
To follow is essential in order to observe and learn. And then graduate to leadership. But it is equally true that people who are chosen to be leaders have to have the qualities of a follower. In fact, both the roles are constant and interchangeable. No one person can possibly know everything.
The premise is that we all are constantly learning from each other. And leaders need to keep their head squarely on their shoulders and their egos thoroughly in check to sustain their leadership.
A leader therefore, is a balanced individual who needs to maintain a sense of respect as well as respect those around, whether in families, groups or workplaces. And one who also switches roles as per the need of the hour, a definite formula for success and admiration.
