Meditation

Many people think meditation is something you do in an isolated place with closed eyes. But a meditative state is one of “no thoughts”. Anytime, within any activity, done with deep concentration, one can reach a state of “ no thought”.

The mind exists only as long as there is thought. If you think you have a mind, you do. If there is no thought at all, there is no mind and that state is the ultimate state when the true self shines.

Inner world

Brooding and overthinking has to be replaced by conscious thought. Only then can we progress in our quest for meditation to improve our minds and move towards discovering our inner worlds.

Let thoughts come and go. Let relationships come and go. If we can just watch these without either getting involved in them, reacting or forcing them, they will follow a natural pattern and leave us.

Total awareness should be experienced as it is, totally! We cannot let US displace its energy. It is like a butterfly sitting on our shoulders while we let it, without moving.

Stillness of our being is the answer. For everything. Daily occurrences are like the waves that come and go. We, the ocean, are still. If we let go of the waves, we are simply the ocean.

Truth

Absolute, untainted truth is almost always unacceptable to the average human mind. It is like wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes against the sun. Stark reality is like the blazing sun.

This is why we find sugar coated living bearable and even motivating. The fear of discovering who we really are rules our lives. We don’t want to go there. There is an unconscious denial to turn inwards.

Our comfort levels lie in overt, sometimes superficial gregariousness, almost to divert our minds from our intrinsic nature and our inability to isolate ourselves to find ourselves. For, meditation is nothing but that. To eliminate the thought that works as a veil between the divine and you. In other words, thoughts become an impediment because they immediately combine with senses and pollute the mind which, actually, needs to be purified to make headway into the spiritual realm.

All our lives, we exist like this, until the end of our lives.

Vibrations

Today, I heard a very interesting statement. The birth of language was the camouflage of vibrations. We became so engrossed in talking and expressing ourselves that we lost our inner silence . Hence, we could not listen to our vibrations and to our intuition. They became blurred.

This is so true. If you think about it, this  is exactly why you can talk people into anything and talk people out of anything.

As the influence from outside in terms of verbal persuasion increased, we lost our own inner voice, a voice which can be heard in only silence. Silence of the mind. And a mind which is not tainted by futile talk. A mind that is not misled. And a mind that is employed in meditation.

Law of resonance

At the right time, you meet some right people who , by their words and good energy, uplift you enough so that you move away from people whose energy tended to pull you down.
Someone I met told me, " keep praying when you need answers and they will come". So true ! Also, Keep a vigil on your thoughts as they come in, recognise them for what kind they are and then decide if you still want to give them shelter or send them away.
I got into the habit of doing one guided meditation every night and then switched on my 8 hour "Om" chant to sleep. It has worked like magic . Most times, there is calm and you don't get either offended or affected by the negatives around you. As a bonus, you start building bridges with people who have meant something to you and are perhaps distanced.
There are three stages :
First, you react to negativity because it is also present in you. The law of resonance.
Second, you work on yourself, still know it is happening, but start to get immune to it. The percentage within you reduces.
Thirdly, you now learn to smile at what you see and it doesn't affect you anymore.
A little crude but an apt example is when I was always counselled that if dogs barked on the streets, would you bark back ? In a manner of speaking, teaching non retaliation. Because until you retaliate, you are not cleansed yet.
How much there is to do and how little time !

Lifestyle

We constantly speak of evil and good, making and marring, right and wrong. We get exhausted just trying to understand what we are all about and what life is all about. I often feel that over analysis of anything can never have a solution. Looking at something from different angles and then coming to a conclusion is not that simple, because in most cases, you will find a bit of both the extremes and variation only of degrees. So how do you come to a perfect or the right solution anyway?
So, it pays to take the surface value instead of trying to get into details. Details have many layers and peeling them may be a painful project.
Simple perceptions can keep life simple. Convoluted perceptions may be temporarily exciting but in the long run, they can be very tiring.
So, my funds is, keep it simple. In every way, including keeping simple friends, simple food, simple lifestyle and generally, a simple life based on simple thoughts.

Qualities of people

Ultimately, it is all about us. And one of the things relevant here is also spending time with people who make us feel good. We don't make it a point to spend time with those we can learn from. We prefer to be in the company of people who we are not threatened by or develop a complex from. We definitely avoid such individuals. This attitude prevails more in the modern world of competition and one unman ship. At one time, there was much respect for the learned class, the evolved class. And being around them was a blessing because just listening to them developed our own process of thinking.
They say you develop the traits and qualities of people who you befriend. It is certainly something to ponder over in the context of what we have become and where we need to go from here.

Immaturity

Immaturity can be a curse for those who seek happiness. I am sure that knowingly, no one would drive themselves towards unhappiness. It is the inability to see that one is on the wrong path and on a path that leads to grief and nowhere else.
What is immaturity? To my mind, it has many faces.
A tendency to be impulsive can be immaturity because it can tilt the balance between cause and effect, and balance in everything is the key.
Thinking only of your own comfort and disregarding the feelings of others is immaturity because true happiness is a derivative of the heart which works in two ways: give and take.
Living without morals and values is immaturity. Maturity is when you have your principles and responsibilities intact along with freedom.
Immaturity is when you don't know who is sincere and who isn't, when you get impressed by external facades instead of evaluating the inner core of people.
A lack of Ethics constitutes a big portion of immaturity, when you, out of your own unhappiness and dissatisfaction with your existing life, cause upheavals in the lives of others, when you let your petty ego mar beautiful relationships.
When you live in denial of your own weaknesses and refuse to be counseled. And sometimes, choose those to counsel you who have a hidden motive to come close, shunning those who love you and have wisdom to impart.
Carrying grouses over small issues and allowing this to distance you from people, without actually realizing that no one can be perfect and that only love makes imperfect perfect.
These are just a few. I am sure everyone will have points to add to these. And those who speculate on this subject will definitely be able resolve a lot of confusion in their minds.

Unrealistic

It is unrealistic to think we can do whatever we like and get away without a tag attached. Life is a trade off. God sneakily perhaps gave us free will while lining our path with karma at the same time so that we are often confused into taking turns which bring grief. And we have done this completely on our own, no one to blame but yourself. And the too, you can't really blame yourself because you had to make the choice you did. The tag attached and the price to pay these is also karma inspired. Your mind will work in a certain way to make you experience the results of your actions.
Does it sound ominous? If it does, you need a change your attitude towards it. Grumble and bear Grin and bear or understand and bear. But bear you must.
