Transformation

Transformation is always from within. It is a change which comes to stay. Cannot be external or faked. Also, it comes after a lot of churning within. With a realization that something NEEDS to be changed, that it is not quite right, even makes you uncomfortable.

We have a built in meter within us which tells us. But we may not either realize this or want to listen to it. When we are not ready and have to go

Through some more churning.

Isn’t it strange then that we have everything with us, but we take so much time to actually turn to the right side of the coin?

Transformation

Once again, I am reminded of prophecies regarding the downfall of human beings in kalyug. The recent worst-case scenario: this election is demonstrating it. One may as well recognize that not much falls in the category of the virtuous. That we can fall so low! ANYTHING to gain power. Even betrayal of your own motherland! Where does this stop? When does it stop? Does it stop at all? You can actually put up your own country for sale? It offends sensibilities and inspires disgust.

Maybe, just maybe, we are seeing an about to happen transformation for the better, that all the darkness shall be blasted out in favour of light. God knows we need it!

Challenges

Who is a “sat guru”? “Sat” means the absolute and undeniable reality and “guru” refers to one who dispels the darkness.  Of what ? The darkness of ignorance of who we are . It has been often said that a guru finds you when you are ready. And this being ready could be the evolution of our soul through multiple lifetimes. It also appears that when you are in need of a guru, you may find one.

Whatever the ways, a guru is one who activates and guides the spiritual path. This does not happen suddenly unless it is the grace of the Almighty. We have to keep working on ourselves through a multilayered pattern of discipline directed to achieve this goal.

A true guru also energises a student to move ahead without him or her when the time comes and when the ignorance transforms into knowledge, studied, reflected and meditated on , before internalising it.

It is serious business because the transformation is on the gross, subtle and causal aspects of the individual. Today, an awareness is slowly creeping in , that goodness must be cultivated and harvested to embark on the path of purity and spiritual awakening. Different ways are available and any one can help if understood clearly .

Yes, there are challenges in the form of the many temptations the body and mind can fall prey to. And here is where a firm resolve that “I know this is good for me and my soul” works wonders.

Transformation

It is amazing how we gradually develop a lifestyle on how others function and how they want us to function, pretty often like them, to form a “like minded” group. There is nothing “like minded” about this, because the urge to belong somewhere takes away the “mind” . Otherwise, we would not get led away but in fact, would lead ourselves into a more healthy space.

.. until one fine day,you realise the futility of it all. But now, it becomes very hard to reverse a road well travelled , which sadly, never led to the destination that the soul would have chosen.

It is a misnomer that if we choose over all health of mind and body as a priority, that we would become isolated. Yes, there would definitely be habits which would change. But a realignment by the universe is constantly happening. Everything finds its level if we let ourselves get help from it.

I am aware that even one habit is difficult to break. Because it has taken years of a repeated pattern to create it. Our mind also , along the way, has developed crutches to happiness. It rules us in a big way and we think WE are taking the decisions . Not so ! We are being led.

This is how , in extreme habit formation, addiction happens. When you can’t do without something because , that “something” gives you a false , temporary feeling of the “feel good” factor . And so, as an example, liquor is taken to relax. Why not meditation ?

Late nights and partying are a symbol of being cool and feeling happy. Why not getting up early sometimes, and chanting instead ?

Meeting friends through the day fills our lives . Why not try being your own friend for a change and contemplating on why , after all this “full” life, you are not happy still ?

Transformation is difficult because it results in huge shifts in the mind. Because we actually start controlling it and taking informed decisions for our lives. There may be a price to pay in terms of losing some people and some group activities . But, this kind of “ losing” has astounding pluses for the individual…..

What lacks is human will based on awareness . If I don’t know what is good for me, my life will be over without ever attempting to see where it could have gone, with a little courage and faith . A healthy , spiritual life is a choice each one of us makes.

Spiritual orators

In the beginning, an attempt to detach is very painful. Humans are tied up in the silken threads of “moha” which is attraction to people and things, even to places. Even silken threads spell bondage, though, it may be remembered.
Spiritual orators recommend detachment to obtain peace and to move forward towards a more elevated state of being. Not an easy task ! But when you pray hard enough, and try sincerely, the Universe helps you. Circumstances arise to help you detach slowly, often painfully.
After the stage is reached when the pain lessens, you can start feeling the relief of being liberated. Because in “moha”, YOU hold on so, only you can let go to experience the feeling of freedom from the huge amount of baggage that you had stored baggage because “moha” leads to much suffering. You are actually trying to capture the intangible and the illusory. What then would be the result other than suffering?

Self image

One of the biggest fears we humans seem to have is to be proven wrong. We go to any lengths to give excuses, explanations and justify ourselves. It is a malady! We are humans after all, and what is wrong in saying, "I was wrong?" It clears the air between two people if you admit the truth, that of being wrong.
But no! We will severe the connection itself if we have to, but will not confess. To say "I am wrong" requires guts and courage. You feel people will judge you and think negatively about you. But on the contrary, you will be respected for stating your truth because very rarely do people come out with simple, straight forward admissions of this kind.
If you lie to yourself, try to do a cover up of your mistake, people know what you are doing. I had a teacher in school who, if she didn't know an answer to a student's question, simply said that she didn't know but would find out the answer and tell him. She was one of the most highly respected teachers, for her honesty and simplicity.
It is such a burden to carry and such a false self image! What's the point? It can only cause stress. And you find yourself shying away from people for not having the courage to look at them in the eye. Not a single winning point there, right then why?

Dependability

The true measure of a person is dependability. You may not meet for months but the one you think of first in a crisis is a friend indeed or family. How close such people have to be to you!
Can you go beyond the SMS and the whatsapp to reach out? If someone texted asking if you needed help, your instinct would always is to refuse because if you really want to help, you would not be asking.
One has to be very honest and lip service is not honesty. At the end of the day, an offer is just that an offer. Standing at someone's doorstep unasked, unannounced, to be of help is actual help.
An angle we need to work on.

The actual difference

How beautifully we humans have been created. Every part has a role , never mind that we are so clever we abuse it again and again.
We have two ears , one to listen and one to remove the filth we hear very often. Same with our mind. Thoughts should come and go. But what happens is the opposite. They stay and then starts a reaction and this habit lasts lifelong very often. The eyes , the windows of the soul, become myopic because they can't see clearly into the soul. The senses, which are given to us to experience all facets of life choose to act jointly with the ego and destroy the feeling of joy. Just to describe a few.
So, we are our own worst enemies in every way. All the academic excellence is on one side and life on the other. I can't see negative emotions ever as a wise choice if it feeds the ego. If we go through life without learning the useful lessons, we could certainly end up being truly scholastic but still without the experience that makes the actual difference.

Sense of freedom

We are free spirits but once limited to the bodies given to us, we limit ourselves in major ways. But the body is a vehicle to have a fulfilling life as well. The irony, the apparent contradiction does not sit well on many. It is like sitting in a car and driving instead of walking on your legs. It is an apparent convenience but there is a need for judiciousness and discretion apart from skill and of course, energy petrol.
Going through life needs all of the above. And when these don't work, the body itself becomes an impediment and the sense of freedom is gone.
This is the whole point of balancing the body, mind and soul.

Pile up

Right from the time we become adults, we accumulate and hoard. Then, in the sunset years, we need to declutter and give away. Similarly, we build larger homes and then shrink them into apartments. We know that everything has to be downsized ultimately. Yet, we keep accumulating more than we actually need.
I believe that the bigger the space you create the more clutter you will pile up. Every empty wall needs to be filled up.
Yet, our heart has huge spaces in it. We call it a void. Because
ironically we downsize the heart very early in life, which we are not supposed to. No clutter there. Whereas, the more full it is, the more abundance there would be; a completely opposite reality the main difference between the physical world and the non physical world.

Connection

Getting to know someone up close and personal and getting to know that person through the eyes and experience of someone else are completely different pieces of knowledge. Often, we become judgmental with merely surface an impression which is not really fair. What we need to do is to spend time with someone one to one and then decide who they are or can be. You make an honest heart connection and ninety to one, they will show a side of them which is pleasant and even endearing. The question is, do we have the ability to extract the good side of people?
