Personal upliftment
Do you remember the
song" let’s start at the very beginning" from "Sound of Music”?
It says a lot for our lives. Many times, life brings us to a point where we
realize what does NOT work for us. And we need to start over, often, from the
beginning.
It could be in connection
with a valued relationship gone cold or actions that brought undesirable
results. We tend to give up more easily than we should. If you believe
something is very important in your life, you will give it
all you have got without getting put off. Provided the spark exists.
And when this spark ignites towards a personal upliftment, it becomes a
fire putting us through many tests and purifying us as we work towards our
transformation.
Yes...on this path, we need to start at the beginning many times over
until we reach a state where layers have started peeling and transformation
happens miraculously.

Path of evolution
One
of the greatest challenges on the path of evolution is living in the present
and awareness every second. To hold every thought outside and examine it for
its purity/pollution before internalizing it. How easy this difficult exercise
makes our life! Almost like a game. Because the inner being accepts only the
positive. And what to accept is completely in our power.
Yes. It is difficult until it becomes easy...but it DOES
become easy for the ones who persevere.

Mischief of the ego
How many
of us recognize the mischief of the ego? Here are some pointers:
·
If you
are in the one upmanship game.
·
When
you compare yourself with others.
·
When
you want to be in the limelight all the time.
·
When
you like the last word.
· When
you find it difficult to admit you may not be right.
· When,
as an elder, you want subservience from those younger to you.
·
When
you deliberately put people down…
There is a deep connection between ego and
insecurity and low self esteem. It is indeed a pity that our inherent wisdom
deserts us, sacrificed at the alter of our ego. These pointers may help us in
becoming aware of our own mental congestion.

Kindness
Kindness! One of the first things that happen
to you when you start actually practicing the laws of spirituality is that
people become very kind to you. I am really psyched to see this. I always feel
that even a criminal has a good side which the world is unable to bring out.
However, kindness is not
something you wait for from others. If there is kindness on your skin, let it
show. People advocate not wearing your heart on your sleeve. But I say, wear
kindness on your sleeve because it has manifested on the sleeve straight from
the heart and gives a tremendous amount of satisfaction to the soul. And
because it is so divine.

Karmic cycle
I was
thinking about the past, how some people come into our lives as a blessing
and some as learning. On thinking further, there is little difference. Those
who come as a learning lesson also come as a blessing because we learn through them.
And
those who are a blessing also teach us how we can be a blessing to others. Both
are so connected.
In a
way, this also refers to our karmic cycle. We see things as good and bad and
that's the problem. If we see everything and everybody we react too badly as
actually a learning lesson, life would be so easy!

Ironic Truth
Is there a right time for everything? Perhaps,
yes...in relationships for sure. The closer you are and the more you have
participated in the emotions of another, the more vigilant you should be.
Nothing breaks as easily as a heart or trust.
I am not saying that one should be calculating
and on edge all the time. Somehow, whatever you say about not keeping
expectations, you do end up with a few. But there is always a difference
between realistic and unrealistic ones. Now, what
is realistic or otherwise would depend again on the closeness of the
relationship. Ironic but true.
It is
however; better to assimilate the hurt caused than to constantly be troubled
about it. It can disturb not only your mind but your life if you don't move on
with acceptance of something you cannot change. Because you can be responsible
only for yourself.

Instant
People
take the word "instant" to an unreal level. In the current world of
instant coffee and noodles, even the desire for success is instant. After
barely a few months of training, you want give stage performances. By studying
at the last minute, you want to top the class. By taking bribes, you want
instant richness.
Actually,
you quicker you go up without deserving to, the quicker the chances of downfall
and oblivion.
Everything
takes time. I think we all have heard of the story of the goose that laid the golden egg.
The owner, in his desire to get rich quickly, decided to cut open the goose to
remove all the eggs at one go. But there were none. The eggs were produced only
one at a time. So, the owner became a pauper.
Be patient and master the
knowledge or your craft before you crave for success. Surely, no one can stop
you then.

Frustration and comparison
What
touches me most is when someone very honestly acknowledges and speaks about the
blocks they feel within. One friend talked about feeling jealousy. I know most
of us have felt envious at various times when we haven't succeeded in achieving
what another has. Or, when we wish we had the attributes or traits of
another...or even the luck of another.
Tough
luck, friends! We may be on the wrong thinking track. We are, each one of us, fashioned
in a certain way. There is no tax on dreaming and
working towards what we want to achieve. The problem lies in how we react when
do NOT succeed in achieving the goal.
And this is the time of frustration and
comparison with those who stand a little or more than a little above us.
Time to start understanding
our life and crossing the "T" s and dotting the "I" s in
our lives, not in those of others. There is magic within each of us which lies
undiscovered because we forget to look within. We are unique. Why aspire to be
someone else?

Gratitude
Gratitude
with a motive! Another human aberration! Gratitude is a pure form of
recognizing what we have been given by the Divine and with humility.
Prayers
are linked with gratitude. When we visit a temple, church, mosque, we are in a
mode of surrender. And we feel good energy within and around us.
But get
involved in the same daily environment and that good energy doesn't take long
to disappear. Wants raise their head and gratitude gets lost.
Only if we are constantly in a state of
awareness and prayer can we achieve a constant state of gratitude.

Form of lies
A little today on a subtle form of
lies…when we say something just to please someone temporarily, at that moment,
just to be approved of, when actually, we have not meant a word!
This is so rampant in society that we call
it form of “diplomacy”. But diplomacy, as is commonly understood is to state
the truth in a way that it does not hurt the other person. Ultimately,
everything can be put down to perspective…the way we took at things. But is it
so simple?
When we don’t mean it and yet say it, it
does amount to misleading and deviating from truth. This also may result in
giving false hopes to people and therefore, is not at a very great distance
from a lie.
I have seen people do this time and time
again. They probably think this is a way to become popular…just tell people
what they want to hear…but they are actually harming themselves. Not only that,
sooner or later, people also understand what is going on. It is a “lose lose”
situation.
So, it is really important not to take
that route. Better to keep silence under such circumstances.

Expectations
We
always think of expectation from others. But have we ever dwelt on how much
some of us expect from ourselves? To be a perfectionist is one such
expectation. “I want to do everything to perfection and I can almost kill
myself just to prove to myself that I can do it.”
The flip
side of this can be very damaging. Unrealistic expectations from the self can
cause much stress, anger if unable to reach the self made benchmark, depression
accompanied by low self esteem.
To relax and do your best is
a good way to handle life. Often, the benchmark we think is ours can actually
inspired by impressing someone else. And sometimes, it can be a trait from the
past or past lives that continues due to karmic issues. Any kind of imbalance
distorts. Expectations is a need that is perhaps better transformed into a calm
attitude of dealing with what comes your way to the best of your ability
without getting hyper.

Dualities
Life can never be judged
on how much we lost. On the contrary. If we actually make a list of what we
actually received, it would submerge the list of what we think we did not get.
Many things that did not
come our way were not meant to because we had to experience what we came here
to experience. "Loss" seems to be a meaningless perspective.
The mind always wants
things constantly. It is like maize from which we need to find our way out.
What is actually progress for the soul is not
always what we desire. How does one emphasize this to someone?
The Universe always
balances the roles of each human being. The imbalance comes from us, from our
wants which may be unreasonable at the best of times. And when they are not
fulfilled, we may feel we lost out. But in our world of dualities, behind every
loss is a gain, behind every darkness there is light.
When we enter a phase of
darkness, we get perturbed and anxious, not wanting to trust the power that we
must learn to trust. The tide definitely turns in time if we learn to be
patient and wait. Because as everything does....this too shall pass. Not only
that, we too will pass. We must remember the ultimate reality before we hassle
over temporary loss and gain. There are many core issues to focus upon.
